Southern Star’s Angiy Mason recognized with ESGR Patriot Award

Left to right, Matt McCoy, Director, Commercial Services; Danielle Randolph, Capacity Scheduler Analyst; Angiy Mason, Leader, Capacity Scheduling, and Kevin Gray, Manager, Business Analytics and Capacity Scheduling, gather together for a photo to celebrate Mason being awarded the ESGR Patriot Award at Southern Star’s headquarters in Owensboro.

Southern Star has always been proud to support veterans and service members, and this extends to those working alongside us. Angiy Mason, Leader, Capacity Scheduling in Owensboro, KY, was recognized with the Employer Support of The Guard (ESGR)’s Patriot Award for her support of Danielle Randolph, Capacity Scheduler Analyst, while she’s actively deployed with the U.S. Army National Guard.

The Patriot Award is given to supervisors and employers who provide direct support to service members and their families as they serve our country. ESGR, an office of the Department of Defense, was established to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their employers regarding their military commitments.

Randolph nominated Mason for the recognition last spring as she prepared for her leave with the National Guard, and the award was delivered in late 2023. Southern Star’s Commercial Services team worked with Randolph to coordinate a time for her to join team members and present the award to Mason in person in late February.

Mason said she was honored to receive the award and it’s been inspiring to see Danielle manage her responsibilities working for Southern Star and serving her country.

“She’s an inspiration,” Angiy said. “There is no greater act of service than serving our country. Having the honor of supporting Danielle, or any veteran and their families, in this goal is a privilege.”

Denny Miles, Vice President, IT & Security in Owensboro and Executive Sponsor for Southern Star’s Veterans Employee Resource Group, congratulated Mason on a “well-deserved award.”

“Being deployed directly impacts the service member and their families,” Denny said. “I am encouraged to see Angiy and her team contributing to this sacrifice to serve our country. A company that supports our veterans in this manner speaks volumes to our military communities.”

Tim Blackwell, Manager, Project Management in Edmond and Chair of the Veterans ERG, said he knows firsthand how deployments and training can add stress to your life and take away time from family and work.

“Having an employer that is understanding and supportive of that commitment means a lot,” Tim said. “This award speaks volumes to how Angiy leads her team and it’s encouraging to veterans across the company.”
