Southern Star proudly announces employee-managed nonprofit to benefit community

(Owensboro, KY – Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Inc.) – Southern Star is proud to announce the formation of Southern Star Cares, an employee-led nonprofit organization that will benefit the Owensboro area community.

Southern Star team members generated more than $100,000 in their inaugural fundraiser, surpassing the team’s $80,000 goal.

“Our individual team members make Southern Star Cares possible. Their generosity is inspiring, and I look forward to seeing how the funds will help local nonprofits that need support,” said Shawn Patterson, President and CEO of Southern Star.

All funds raised by Southern Star Cares go to grant recipients, with no administrative fees or deductions.

“When we began forming this nonprofit, we wanted 100% of our donations going straight to the local organizations that need it. I’m very proud of our team for their hard work in establishing Southern Star Cares,” said Karen Goedde, Director of Communications and Public Relations at Southern Star.

Southern Star Cares will award grants to local nonprofit organizations beginning in 2024, and details for the application process will be announced in the second quarter of 2023.

“Once the nonprofit becomes well-established in the Owensboro area, our goal is to expand Southern Star Cares to other communities across our company footprint,” said Goedde.
